With sugary drinks under attack by health-minded party poopers, Slurpees are slashing the sweet stuff.

Makers of the icy, slushy 7-Eleven favorite will begin unveiling diet-friendly flavors next week. Sugar-free mango will be followed by sugar-free strawberry banana and sugar-free cherry limeade. Additional flavors will be rolled out through the end of the year.

Free tastings of the sugar-free mango will be available on the official launch date, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Get the significance of the time? Or the fact that free samples will come in a 7.11-ounce serving?) More Here…………………

In a move that some called historic, the county’s oldest African American civil rights group voted Saturday to endorse same-sex marriage.

The National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People passed a resolution supporting gay marriage at a meeting of its board of directors in Miami, saying it opposed any policy or legislative initiative that “seeks to codify discrimination or hatred into the law or to remove the constitutional rights of LGBT citizens.”

Directors of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force erupted in applause at their board meeting Saturday as their phones buzzed with the news.

“Today is a historic day,” Rea Carey, executive director of the task force, said a phone interview from Seattle. “This is what leadership looks like in this country.”

Comcast, of course, says that its new, usage-based pricing policy is pro-consumer, and to a certain extent it is. The average broadband subscriber — those who only use up about 8 GB or 10 GB of data a month — shouldn’t necessarily pay the same as those whose usage goes above 300 GB in the same period of time.
